Job Description

 

RESET Caribbean Foundation, a not-for-profit, community supported, self-help entrepreneurship, small business and community development organization, is seeking to fill the position of Enterprise Systems and Information Technology Technician.

 

Purpose of the Role - The Enterprise Systems and Information Technology Technician will be responsible for the RESET’s server computing systems generally, and the installation, maintenance, upgrading of the hardware and software and interfacing with users to determine support needs, which includes, but is not limited to the specific duties outlined below.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage network configurations to ensure that all computers on a network can communicate effectively and act as a technical resource in order to assist users with resolving computer issues

  • Analyze network problems and manage preventative maintenance procedures  and maintain documentation of technical maintenance procedures carried out

  • Test computers peripherals, hardware and software to ensure that they are working appropriately

  • Install and configure computer networks including LAN and WAN Upgrade software, patches and operating systems on a continuous basis

  • Install and configure  hardware, software and device drivers,  monitors, keyboards and printers

  • Connect hardware and peripherals such as printers and scanners and configure them to work properly

  • Provide assistance in customizing and adapting existing programs on a computer system to meet the needs of the users

  • Perform regular and preventative physical and virtual maintenance on  all computers and on the network members

  • Install/Upgrade antivirus and firewalls on computers and networks to ensure security

  • Recommend purchases for both software and hardware

  • Ensures the safety of user and system files by backing up all files on the system to facilitate recreating the system after a hardware crash of a system disk drive.

  • Handle data backup activities by ensuring appropriate running of backup servers and drives

  • Provide new users with orientation of existing technology and explain the role of network applications and equipment to the end users

  • Provide users with network access according to instructions provided by the management

  • Determine users’ technical needs and provide them with appropriate solutions

  • Identify hardware and software needs of each user’s computers and take measures to meet those needs

  • Install programs and software onto each computer according to the specific needs of the user

  • Troubleshoot problems with hardware and software on each system and provide appropriate solutions

  • Ensure that computers and networks are secured by installing and updating  antivirus and anti malware applications

  • Handle computer security breaches by following standardized procedures

  • Monitor the security of all technological members on a network

  • Train users to handle information technology equipment by providing precise instructions

  • Provide training to users in the event of a new technology module

  • Assist customers and users with their hardware issues over the telephone, face to face and through emails.

Requirements

  • Post-Secondary Certification or above in Information Technology or related field; additional qualification as a computer/lab technician would be a plus.

  • Ability to solve system-related problems by using diagnostic techniques and protocols.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • The ability to maintain confidentiality in regard to information processed, stored, or accessed by the systems.

  • The ability to work as a team member.

  • The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

  • A general understanding of a learning management system and web design techniques and a basic knowledge of relational database systems are preferred.

  • Ability to automate system administration tasks using various Tools.

 

Note:     This job requires working on computers and IT Systems for extended periods of time and will include regular lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to twenty-five pounds, and occasionally up to fifty pounds.

 

The twenty-four hour scope of the department requires this position to be available evenings, nights, and weekends to respond to calls regarding questions or problems with the RESET’ computing systems.
